What is Botox Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).
BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by a healthcare professional as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there's a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, which can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time.
In 2005, almost 3.3 million procedures were performed with FDA-approved BOTOX® Cosmetic.
There’s only one BOTOX® Cosmetic. Talk to your doctor to see if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you!
Botox Cosmetic Injections for Making You Look Good
Botox cosmetic
injections are one of the most frequent cosmetic procedures performed
in the Phoenix Scottsdale Mesa Gilbert Tempe Chander area. Men and women of all ages from all over the Phoenix
area are now being treated with Botox to help them look younger . Botox Cosmetic
injection uses a highly diluted derivative of Botulinum Toxin Type
A found to be extremely safe in treating neuromuscular disorders. The FDA
approved the use of Botox in 2002 for cosmetic use. However, cosmetic surgeons
and dermatologists have been using Botox to treat facial wrinkles such
as crow's feet and frown lines for approximately 10 years.
A Botox cosmetic injection is directly injected into the muscles you want to
relax.. It then goes on to enter your nerve endings to block the release
of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to contract. BOTOX
is extremely specific in how it reacts to block the release of acetylcholine
and, as a result, only the muscles we inject are relaxed. Once the
muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural
and relaxed appearance. Some have called this unique therapy “a facelift in
a bottle”.
Botox cosmetic injections typically last from 3-6 months. The rare side effects
of getting a Botox injection, such as a droopy eye, are only temporary.
Botox injections are a great way to reduce your facial wrinkles. With
continued use of Botox your wrinkles become less and less noticable and
frequently disappear. Botox is not a permanent solution to wrinkles.
You must keep up with your Botox treatments or your wrinkles will come
back. Most people come in 2-3 times per year for Botox injections.
Botox Cosmetic Injection for sweating
(Hyperhydrosis)
For the past 4 years, it has also been recognized
that BOTOX® can dramatically reduce excessive sweating
(hyperhydrosis).
If injected under the arms, it can often reduce sweating completely. People
usually request re-injecting 6 - 9 months later, even though only some
of the sweating has returned.
A significant reduction in sweating can be achieved in the hands. Good
improvement is usually seen that lasts up to 6 months. Many injections
are often needed and anaesthetic, or freezing, may be required before
hand treatment.
Botox Injection for Migraine
and Tension Headaches
Botox is extremely effective in treating migraine and
tension headaches. Clinical studies are now being performed using Botox
for treating migraine headaches. The duration of action of Botox
migraine prevention varies from about 10 to 13 weeks. Like other
migraine preventives, the onset of effect may take a few weeks.
